Master’s Research Project Underway

After months of grueling animation and research work, I have some in-progress updates. Doing research with fetal cleft palate development has left me with about a million morphing techniques via Maya and Mudbox. Here is an in-progress animation for one of my 7 fetal morphs at the moment. This is a demonstration of fetal growth during the Carnegie Stages of Development from about 3-10 weeks gestation. This animation is just a rough draft of the final outcome; I’m merely experimenting with textures and atmospheric flair.

My first animation!

…medical or otherwise.

Well here it is: my plunge into the sexy world of 3D animation. I’ve chosen a dramatic take of the effects of smoking, using some fun live action sequencing (which was also a first).

All modeling within this animation was accomplished through 3D programs Mudbox and Maya. Post production achieved in Adobe AfterEffects.

Björk meets medical animation

Björk is releasing her much awaited album and ipad application, Biophilia, using the talents of medical artist and animator, Drew Berry, to showcase her newest musical undertakings.

Not only is this release an epic technological advancement, involving applications for fan use, it highlights a strangely symbiotic relationship between art, music and science. You can visit her vamped up official website complete with interactives paralleling her new direction.

One of the features on this album is titled, “Virus.” Björk has stated “virus is about the love between a virus and a cell, a symbiotic relationship: not femme fatale but virus fatale. in the app you can try to save the cell by fighting the virus, but to hear the whole song, the virus must win! and as with crystalline and cosmogony apps, virus also has lyrics, animation, musical score and essay.”

Here’s a small sampling of virus via youtube:
